How gold jewellery is priced

Jewellers price gold as: (weight in grams × rate per gram × purity factor) + making charges. The purity factor adjusts the pure-gold rate down to your karat: 22K jewellery contains 91.6% pure gold, so you pay for the gold content plus the craftsmanship.

Karat guide

24K is 99.9% pure but too soft for jewellery. 22K is the South Asian jewellery standard. 21K dominates Gulf markets. 18K is harder and best for diamond settings. Higher karat = more gold value but softer metal.
