How salary tax works in Pakistan
Pakistan uses a progressive tax system for salaried income. That means higher rates apply only to the portion of income inside each slab — not to your whole salary. Annual income up to Rs. 600,000 is completely tax-free. Above that, rates step up from 5% to 35% across the slabs.
Example: Rs. 100,000 monthly salary
Annual income = 100,000 × 12 = Rs. 1,200,000. The first Rs. 600,000 is tax-free. The next Rs. 600,000 is taxed at 5% = Rs. 30,000 per year, or about Rs. 2,500 per month deducted from salary.
